Editor’s Review: Jeff Randall Designed Rat 3 (Ontario Model 8633) (Green Sheath, Serrated Edge)
First of all, the photo of the RAT 3 knife makes the handle look somewhat green, when it’s actually more of a tan color. The Rat 3 knife is a small to medium sized fixed blade knife that would be ideal for anyone with smaller hands (4.3″ handle). The blade is adequate for most cutting tasks and has a nice shape to it. An epoxy powder coat on the blade gives it some texture and offers added blade protection and no glimmer. I love that the RAT 3 knife is full tang — it feels very strong in the hand and it has the skull crusher pommel (ouch!).
The Ontario RAT 3 Kydex Sheath holds the knife very tightly, so you can carry it in an inverted position withouth the knife falling out. You actually have to push in the opposite direction on the sheath with your thumb while pulling the knife out. Another cool aspect of the RAT 3 Knife is the Tek-Lok Belt Mounting system that’s included with the purchase of the RAT 3. For those of you who don’t know what the Tek-Lok is, it is an attachment that secures to your belt (fits a variety of sizes) and the secures to the RAT 3 Sheath. This allows you to carry the RAT 3 on your belt instead of just the pocket. Of course the sheath for the RAT 3 also has holes so you can carry it as a neck knife.
